Rules

  1. All members and guests of Vero Beach Elks are invited to participate.
  2. There is no charge to play.
  3. In case of a tie, the Team is requested to venture a guess before the contest begins as to what their probable final score will be (a maximum is 9 per round).
  4. Team size will be one to six members; but teams must be grouped together, preferably a single table or adjoining tables.   A Team of one or two participants may sit at the Bar.
  5. The team will provide a name for themselves at check-in. They will designate a captain. Upon check-in the team will receive a paper Response Form.
  6. There will be 4 Rounds with up to 8 questions in each Round.  The subject of the trivia questions for each Round is up to the Quizmaster. They will be posted on home page of this website.
  7. The Quizmaster will read the question twice.  One of the participants on each team must answer the question by writing A, B, C or D next to the appropriate question number on the Response Form. The team will have 15 seconds to answer before the quizmaster proceeds to the next question.
  8. After all the questions for the Round have been read and time given to answer, the quizmaster will offer to re-read one time any of the questions in that Round.
  9. Team scoring will be calculated as follows. One point will be awarded for each correct answer.
  10. All submissions are considered final. Only one Response Form per Team will be collected.  Once a Team’s Response Form is collected they cannot change it.
  11. The Scorer will collect all Response Forms following the Round and manually determine the score for each Team. The quizmaster will read the team scores.  They will be displayed on the TV in the Lounge.
  12. There will be a 5 to 10-minute break between Rounds.
  13. The Team with most points at the end of Round 4 wins the prize. In the event of a tie at the end of Round 4, the team with the closest estimate of their probable score (provided  before the contest begins) without going over their actual score, breaks the tie.  If all Teams go over, the closest estimate to their actual score wins.
  14. Team participants are not allowed to make calls with their mobile phone or tablet.  No use of automated assistants such as Siri and no Internet search engine usage with any digital device.  No reference material such as cheat sheets, maps or books.
  15. Those participants that need to make or accept a call must do that at a separate location and remain disqualified for the remainder of the Round. If you leave the Lounge area during the round you are disqualified for the remainder of the round. Those disqualified may not sit at the team table until the current round is complete.
  16. Upon the first infraction, the Team will be disqualified for the Round. Upon the second infraction, the Team will be disqualified entirely.
  17. Players MUST NOT call out the answer. Answering loudly to your teammates is considered the same. Not only will everybody boo, but upon the second infraction you may be asked to leave by the Lodge.
